Information about the English league – history, English league players.
The English soccer history began around 60 years ago, with non-league football clubs from England starting a tournament. This was known as the FA Cup. This tournament was played between teams from non-league and the English Football Association. This was the first step to becoming an official member of the English soccer association. This was also the first season where the English were able to sign football players from overseas. This was a major step towards making the English soccer teams professional.
The next step in the evolution of soccer was when professional teams were formed from scratch. These teams became known as leagues or soccer clubs. These teams played against other professional teams from Europe. This competition helped the sport to develop and become as great as it is today.
In the 60s a new name was given to soccer: “football”. It was changed due to the fact that many countries weren’t happy with the names they had given their teams, so they took the word “football” and changed it to “soccer”. Some countries, like Mexico for example, have soccer as their national sport. But soccer didn’t grow into its own national league until the late 80s.
The next major step towards the growth of soccer in the UK was the formation of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA). This association unite soccer teams from different countries under one umbrella. The PFA has helped to create professional leagues in the UK. Two of these professional soccer divisions are the Football League and the Scottish Premier League.
